Impromptu was Cognos' original querying/reporting tool and comes as either full client or Impromptu Web Reports (IWR). Whilst still being supported by Cognos, and to a lesser degree developed, it has largely been superseded by ReportNet and the integrated reporting capabilities of Cognos 8.
